去年の10月ごろに、
レディオヘッドが新譜イン・レインボウズを、
「ユーザーが自由に値付けして買える」
という方法で売り出しました。
あれってどうなったのかな？
と思い探してみたら、
ちょっとした結果は開示されていたのですね。

According to reports most fans chose to pay nothing to download the album.
⇒ ほとんどのファンは無料でダウンロードをした。
However, it still generated more money before it was physically released (on December 31) than the total money generated by sales of the band’s previous album, 2003’s ‘Hail To The Thief’.
ただし、12月末にイン・レインボウズのCD版をリリースする前の段階で、2003年発売のヘイル・トゥ・ザ・シーフの売上以上にお金が集められていた。

「ほとんどが無料だった」
という事実と、
「それでもヘイルの時より儲かった」
という話が結構新鮮。
大半が無料でDLしようが、
間を中抜きして直販すると、
利益は大きい、ってことなのでしょうね。

Needless to say, the Radiohead concert at the Santa Barbara Bowl was beyond amazing. Possibly the band’s smallest, most intimate show of the tour, took place under raining skies. They mostly played King of Limbs and In Rainbows with a couple pleasant surprises, such as Planet Telex and Staircase. Thom was in a wonderful, joking mood (rumor has it, the band loves to play this venue), adding up to a much more personal feeling show as well. Being front and center in the pit wasn’t so bad either. All the pictures shown I was able to capture with my little point and shoot camera.
